Informal Lazy Book Club: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

Anyone up for a little book talk? Instead of a rec this week, I was thinking we could discuss (in the comments) the fourth book in The Mortal Instruments series: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. Our informal LBC on Mockingjay was so much fun, I thought we'd do it again!

So, while this post does not have spoilers - THE COMMENTS WILL HAVE SPOILERS! MANY, MANY SPOILERS! If you've finished the book, click on the comments and add your thoughts (you know we love to hear them!). If you haven't finished - what are you waiting for? Get to reading! It's so very good! (I think it may be my favorite of the series. Maybe.)

  1. I'm not even sure where to start! I suppose I'll start with what I loved about the book. I found this one to be much more interpersonal than the others. I loved reading about the different relationships in the book and how they were coming together (or not), as well as how the unfolding events affected each couple's relationship.

I think my favorite was the resolution between Simon and Isabelle. And I say "resolution" with trepidation - this is Cassandra Clare, after all, so we can't expect things to be tied up pretty and that be that. :)

I also LOVED Magnus and Alec. When Camille said she would only speak to Magnus, I got all excited because I missed him in the beginning of the book! And Magnus and Alec make me all misty-eyed. It's a very sweet, and well-done love story, in my opinion.

Okay, now on to the part that made me want to quit reading, but not in a bad way - more in an anxious, "I don't want anything bad to happen," way. JACE! The end broke my heart. In tiny little Jace-loving pieces. I really have to collect my thoughts more on this part! That's why I need you all to tell me what your thoughts were! :)

  2. Cassandra Clare is so very good at torturing her characters and in turn, torturing us. My heart broke for all of them and I couldn't stop reading. I am so looking forward to the next installment and equally dreading whatever is in store for Jace. My daughter pre-ordered it so it was at the house on Tuesday. She wasn't coming home until Friday so not only did I have time to read it but I loaned to one of the kids at high school where I work and she read it in ONE day (kind of worry about how much school word got done) I love this series and it just keeps getting better. I was terrified that Jace was planning on killing himself at the end.

  3. Man, just when I thought Jace was going to be all set in his life of ordering "brown manly drinks" and being able to kiss the girl he loved without fear of being related...Cassie throws our hero into another action-filled spiral of a plot line...DEMONPOSSESSEDJACE. I just adored the twist. ADORED it. Who but a true hero will be able to survive all that?? Stay tuned.

  4. Oh Sophie! Leave it to you to see the positive side of the ending! I'm so nervous for Jace! And for Clary. But, I know that Cassie Clare is a master and she will not let us down. Of course, Dee, you are absolutely correct that she is so very good at torturing us! But in a way that we love. I think I will need a glass of wine in hand when I start the next book, since I'm so worried over Jace!
